The South Carolina State Senate convened for a special session to debate a procedural measure that would allow them to consider a bill that would remove the Confederate flag from the State House grounds. The bill came about in reaction to the June 2015 mass shooting at Charleston’s Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the oldest African Methodist Episcopal church in the Southern United States.
