The House Veterans' Affairs Committee held a hearing to assess the fiscal state of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the growing wait times for veterans to receive health care. VA leaders have said they have a $2.6 billion budget fiscal year 2015 shortfall and may need to begin a hiring freeze or furloughs unless the Department receives the flexibility to reallocate funds. Witnesses included several VA officials, including Deputy Secretary Sloan Gibson. close
