The South Carolina State House voted 94-20 to remove the Confederate flag from the Capitol grounds. The House the previous day took up the measure after the Senate passed it 36-3. The legislation came about in reaction to the June 2015 mass shooting at Charleston’s Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the oldest African Methodist Episcopal church in the Southern United States. close
