Better Markets, a group which support public interest in banking law, held an event at the Newseum to mark the fifth anniversary of President Obama signing the Dodd-Frank Financial Reform and Consumer Protection Act on July 21, 2010. The law was an effort to more closely regulate Wall Street in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. Donald Kelleher released Cost of the Crisis Report detailing how the 2008 financial crash and the economic collapse it caused cost the United States more than $20 trillion. He used slides as he pointed out the necessity of passing the Dodd-Frank law. Then former Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) and former Representative Barney Frank (D-MA), the primary authors of the law, were interviewed. Topics included efforts to change the law. close
