The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security convened a hearing on proposed changes to immigration laws, including cuts to federal grants for “sanctuary cities.” Sanctuary cities are jurisdictions around the country that have polices to shelter illegal immigrants and do not use local resources to enforce federal immigration laws. Witnesses included Jim Steinle, whose daughter was killed in San Francisco by an illegal immigrant with a criminal record. close
