“The State of Afghanistan and Prospects for the Future” was a discussion held at the Brookings Institution.
General John Campbell, commander of Operation Resolute Support and U.S. Forces-Afghanistan, talked about the current and future mission in Afghanistan. Topics included the death of Taliban leader Mullah Omar, the progress being made by the Afghan National Security Forces in fighting the Taliban, U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, and a possible settlement between the Taliban and Afghan government. General Campbell’s political adviser, Matt Sherman, outlined the political and economic challenges in Afghanistan.
