Home Affordable Modification Program
Gretchen Morgenson talked about her New York Times piece on the effectiveness of the federal government’s Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP). HAMP was set up by the Obama administration in response to the recession and housing market crisis and and was intended to help homeowners. Ms. Morgenson for the piece looked at data from a TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program) inspector general report that showed a large percentage of borrowers were turned down by banks in their request for assistance. close
