John Ventre gave a tour of the Cincinnati Observatory Center and talked about the history of early American astronomy. The observatory is known as the “Birthplace of American Astronomy” and is home to one of the oldest working telescopes. The observatory was the first public observatory in the western hemisphere and was named the “Lighthouse of the Sky” by former President John Quincy Adams on the day of its dedication.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Cincinnati, Ohio, from June 26-July 1 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Time Warner Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
