Gerald Horne talked by video from Raleigh, North Carolina, about the 50th anniversary of the Watts riots in Los Angeles, which erupted August 11, 1965, following the arrest of a black man for drunk driving. The six days of looting and arson yielded 34 deaths and over $40 million in property damage. The program began with a clip of a December 7, 1965, CBS News documentary. Among other clips shown in the background was a clip of former Assistant Secretary of Labor Daniel Patrick Moynihan talking about the socioeconomic situation of the black people. Other topics included the legacy of Julian Bond, a black activist who died the previous evening at the age of 75. close
