Senator Ted Cruz Religious Rally in Iowa

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), a candidate for 2016 Republican presidential nomination, hosted a “Rally for Religious Liberty” at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He described the importance religion had played in his life and career, and the value he places on religious liberty in the United States. Members of Senator Cruz’s campaign staff and Christians spoke about their commitment to religious freedom and their professional and personal experiences defending their faith. Senator Cruz showed a video of a conversation with Dick and Betty Odgaard and then spoke with them about closing their wedding venue after being sued for refusing to host a same-sex wedding ceremony. Senator Cruz talked with a group of people, introduced by a video, who had career difficulties because of their religious beliefs. Senator Cruz talked with the wife of Saeed Abedini, an Iranian-American pastor imprisoned in Iran since 2012. A video from the Abedini family was shown. close
