Andrew Greenberg talked by video from New York City about the vulnerability of cars connected to the Internet. He had acted as a tester for “white hat” cybersecurity researchers who used their technology background to locate and report vulnerabilities to carmakers and government officials. He told how he drove a Jeep on a highway near St. Louis that researchers attacked remotely by taking over the air-conditioning system, changing the radio station that was playing, and cutting the car’s transmission. His July 2015 story in Wired on hacking automobiles was followed by Chrysler’s recall of 1.4 million vehicles to address possible vulnerabilities. close
