Dennis Conners and Joan Bryant visited the Jerry Rescue Monument and talked about its history. The monument was added to Syracuse, New York’s, Clinton Square in honor of the rescue of William “Jerry” Henry, an escaped slave from Missouri. Mr. Henry was arrested in Syracuse on the same day as the anti-slavery Liberty Party’s state convention. A large mob from the convention freed Mr. Henry, defying the Fugitive Slave Act.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Syracuse, New York, from September 19-25 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Time Warner Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
