Happy Pills in America
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Buffalo, New York, from August 8-14 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Time Warner Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2.

David Herzberg talked about his book, Happy Pills in America: From Miltown to Prozac, about America’s history with medications which have been considered wonder drugs. In his book, Mr. Herzberg examines the medication question by tracing the rise of psychiatric medicines from Miltown in the 1950s to Valium in the 1970s to Prozac in the 1990s.
