In an appearance at Market Square in Pittsburgh, Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Sen. Al Gore, Jr. (D-TN) accused President George H.W. Bush of ordering federal employees to search the personal files in embassies around the world for information that could be used in a “McCarthyite smear campaign” against Democratic presidential nominee Gov. Bill Clinton. He went on to discuss the foreign policy of the Bush administration that supported Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein prior to Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990. close
