Presidential Candidates Debate Former Governor Jimmy Carter (D-GA) and President Ford met at the College of William and Mary for the last of three presidential debates prior to the 1976 presidential election. The candidates stood at podia on the debate stage to respond to questions from a panel of journalists on issues including economic policy and foreign policy. The debate was moderated by Barbara Walters. Other panelists included Joseph Kraft, Robert Maynard, and Jack Nelson.

Candidates were questioned in turn with two-and-a-half minutes to answer. They were given two minutes for rebuttal. Panelists were permitted to ask follow-up questions. The candidates were given three minutes for closing statements. close
