The Senate Banking Committee heard testimony on the condition of the U.S. banking industry and speculations of impending bank failures. Legislation due for enactment in December 1992 would create stricter regulations regarding the total assets needed for a bank to remain open, and the regulations promise to create numerous bank failures in the coming few years. Witnesses included economic scholars and representatives of the U.S. banking industry. close
