The committee heard testimony on U.S. export control policy toward Iraq prior to Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in August 1990. The witnesses testified on whether the U.S. allowed the exportation of military and computer technology to Iraq, which Iraq then may have used to improve its military forces. Issues brought up in the hearing included the involvement of BNL, an Italian banking firm, in the approval of technology exports to Iraq. close
