In an excerpt from a session of the British House of Commons, members debated a motion criticizing the Major administration for allegedly maintaining a privately lenient export policy toward Iraq prior to Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990, while maintaining publicly a strict ban against exports to Iraq. The motion followed the acquittal of three executives from a British tool corporation charged with evading the government’s prohibition from trade with Iraq. close
