Members of the United Nations Security Council debated a resolution authorizing a multilateral military intervention in Somalia to ensure distribution of humanitarian aid to the famine-stricken population. The military intervention is intended to quell civil infighting between feuding warlords that has hampered relief efforts. The U.N. representative from Somalia was invited to sit at the table with the Security Council during debate on the resolution, which was adopted by the council. Translation of remarks not in English was provided by voiceover. close
