The House Foreign Affairs Committee heard testimony on U.S. policy in Somalia from representatives of the Departments of State and Defense and foreign aid agencies. Earlier in the month, U.S. troops began moving into Somalia as part of the U.N.-backed military intervention to distribute humanitarian aid to the famine-stricken country. Issues brought up in the hearing included the duration of U.S. presence in Somalia and the objectives for troops in the region. close
