Attorney Lawrence Walsh, Independent Counsel in the Iran Contra Investigation, spoke in a news conference to condemn the president’s pardon of former Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger announced earlier in the day by the White House. He said the pardon indicated that members of the presidential administration are above the law, and people in power can commit crimes in public office without being held accountable. Mr. Walsh has been conducting an investigation into the matter for six years, and said he would present a report on his investigation for Congress and the public. close
