Members of the European Parliament discussed the current situation in the former Yugoslavia, where civil conflict had been continuing since mid-1992 between Serbs, Croats, and Muslims. The ministers debated aspects of the civil war, including foreign aid for refugees from the fighting, the use of economic sanctions and military force in the conflict, and the possible spread of the conflict beyond the borders of the former Yugoslavia.
