The subcommittee heard testimony on legislation that would continue to fund the National Institutes of Health. Included in the legislation is a provision that would allow fetal tissue transplantation research, research that would allow tissue from aborted fetuses to be used in medical procedures to help patients afflicted with Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, and other genetic diseases. Witnesses included the new secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, Donna Shalala, and the daughter of former Congressman Morris Udall. close
