Mr. Donaldson, representing the political left, and Mr. Novak, representing the political right, debated the news media’s handling of the 1992 presidential election during a conservative political action conference. The two speakers were roundly cheered and hooted by the audience during the sprightly debate, chaired by Mr. Shields. Following their prepared remarks, the speakers responded to questions from members of the audience. Prior to the beginning of the debate, members of the audience chanted, "Where’s Rush?", a demand for the appearance of the conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh. Questions to the speakers during the question period mentioned the comments of Mr. Limbaugh. close
