Ms. Shapley discussed her book, Promise and Power: The Life and Times of Robert McNamara, published by Little, Brown and Company. Ms. Shapley said that Mr. McNamara, formerly secretary of defense under the Kennedy administration, helped create the Vietnam tragedy. He was also president of the World Bank for several years. Ms. Shapley talked about her research for the book, including several interviews with Mr. McNamara. close
