In an excerpt from the session of the House of Representatives, members debated legislation that would provide $4 billion of funding for the extension of unemployment benefits for jobless workers. The legislation was what remained of the Clinton administration’s $16 billion economic stimulus bill, which had been prevented from passing by the Senate Republicans. Supporters of the bill noted the necessity for helping unemployed Americans and criticized the elimination of the rest of the original legislation. close
