David Shields analyzed over a decade of war-related photos from Afghanistan and Iraq that appeared on the front page of The New York Times to determine what kind of message the paper had been sending to its readers. In War Is Beautiful: The New York Times Pictorial Guide to the Glamour of Armed Conflict he argued that the Times painted a very positive picture of the U.S. wars in both countries. He explained why he no loner reads the New York Times in this conversation with graphic designer Milton Glaser and former war correspondent Steve Hindy, part of the War Correspondents at the Brooklyn Brewery series of events. close
