President Obama addressed the nation from the Oval Office about the steps the U.S. government was taking to keep Americans safe. He spoke about the December 2, 2015, mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, and his strategy to defeat ISIS.* He also talked about domestic counterterrorism measures, including preventing those on the no-fly list from purchasing guns, making it harder to buy assault rifles, and establishing stronger screening procedures for those coming to the U.S. without a visa. President Obama also called on Muslim leaders to speak out against extremist ideology and for Americans to reject discrimination, saying “we cannot turn against one another by letting this fight be defined as a war between America and Islam.”
