President Clinton announced his choice of Lee Brown, former chief of police in Houston, Texas, to head the Office of National Drug Control Policy in a ceremony in the White House Rose Garden. President Clinton lauded Mr. Brown’s performance as a law enforcement officer in cities around the nation, his sensitivity to the concerns of citizens, and his innovative programs for community policing. Mr. Brown spoke briefly after the president’s remarks. The president then responded to questions from reporters on various topics including his reduction of funding for the Office of National Drug Control Policy and the situation in Bosnia. close
