Barbara Ehrenreich talked about her article “What Happened to the White Working Class?” The December 1, 2015, story in The Nation examines census data and analysis that shows a marked increase in the mortality of middle-aged white men and women in the U.S. between 1999 and 2013. This change reversed decades of progress in mortality and was unique to the U.S.; no other rich country saw a similar turnaround.
