Several candidates for the Senate seat vacated by Democratic Senator Lloyd Bentsen, who left to serve as Secretary of the Treasury, spoke in a televised debate on the issues of the campaign prior to the election on May 1. The candidates responded to questions on issues including economic policy from a panel of three journalists. KERA-TV in Dallas produced the program and cosponsored the debate with the Dallas Morning News and Texas Monthly. close
