Representatives of the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations held a year-end news conference at the National Press Club on the organization’s initiatives to combat anti-Muslim attitudes in the U.S. They announced decisions made during their summit the previous day on new educational, outreach, and civil empowerment initiatives to address growing Islamophobia in the U.S. and to enhance national security. New strategies would include a campaign to register 1 million Muslim-American voters by the 2016 presidential election and a “National Open Mosque Day.” In addition, the council would seek to increase emergency preparedness for Muslim institutions and citizens faciing hate crimes around the country. close
