President Obama delivered his seventh and final State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress, in which he outlined his priorities for legislative action and the American people. Among the topics he addressed were the economy and job creation, fixing American politics, combating terrorism, and American leadership in the 21st century. He also spoke about college affordability, clean energy, and campaign finance. The president also encouraged innovation in medical research, announcing a new national effort, headed by Vice President Biden, to find a cure for cancer. On national security and foreign policy, he spoke about the strength of the U.S. military and efforts to build international coalitions in the global fight against terror, saying “America will always act, alone if necessary, to protect our people and our allies; but on issues of global concern, we will mobilize the world to work with us, and make sure other countries pull their own weight.” close
