British Foreign Secretary Hurd spoke before the House of Commons on the British government’s stance on the situation in the former Yugoslavia, where a civil war has been raging since 1992. He expressed concern on the atrocities occurring in the region, but said the government would not attempt to end the civil war by force by sending troops to the region on a partisan basis. He responded to questions from other members during his remarks. Following his remarks, a member of the Labour Party opposition spoke in response to the conservative government’s declaration. close
