President Obama outlined his executive actions on guns, calling for what he said was a national “sense of urgency” to help reduce gun violence. His actions included requiring all gun retailers to conduct background checks, strengthening existing gun laws, improving gun safety technology, and increasing investments to help the mentally ill. President Obama was introduced by Mark Barden, whose son, Daniel, was one of the victims of the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. The president became emotional when talking about the children who died then. close
