The Treasury Department hosted a ceremony to rename the Treasury Annex Building the Freedman’s Bank Building. It was built on the original site of the Freedman’s Bank in Washington, D.C. 2015 marked the 150th anniversary of the Freedman’s Bank. Incorporated by Congress in 1865, the bank was for newly freed slaves in the post-Civil War era. close
