Neal Graffy talked about one of Santa Barbara, California’s, earliest industries, Tourism. Known as the “American Riviera” due to the Mediterranean climate, Santa Barbara was promoted as a health resort and destination for travelers as early as the 1870s. Tourism continues to be big part of the city’s economy.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Santa Barbara, California, from January 9-15, 2016, to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Cox Communications local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
