Secretary Jeh used slides as he outlined the progress of the Department of Homeland Security’s work to fight threats facing the country, and the goals for the department for 2016. Secretary Johnson said counter terrorism remained the cornerstone of the department’s mission with the 2015 terrorist attacks reinforcing this. In addition, he provided an update on the agency’s immigration enforcement actions, saying apprehensions on the Southwest border dropped 36 percent in January with the trend continuing in February. Other topics addressed included cyber security, airport passenger screening, DHS personnel training, along with the visa waiver and refugee admissions programs. After his speech, he was interviewed by Jane Harman and took questions from audience members, including former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.
