Several Defense Department officials provided status reports and offered assessments of the Afghanistan National Security Forces in a hearing of the the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. Many of the panel’s questions focused on President Obama’s recent budget request for U.S. support of Afghan forces, on the accountability surrounding such spending, and the merits of keeping troops in the region for longer than originally planned. close
