President Clinton praised the efforts of American troops in Operation Restore Hope, the humanitarian relief effort in Somalia, in a ceremony welcoming the troops home. The U.S. officially handed control of the humanitarian aid efforts in Somalia to the U.N. the previous day. General Johnston also praised the performance of the troops, after which the president shook hands with representatives of the U.S. troops in Somalia. The president and General Johnston also introduced a member of the U.S. Marine Corps who gave birth to triplets shortly before the U.S. mission to Somalia. Sergeant Harvey spoke briefly to acknowledge the honor. close
