President Obama signed a bill called the Judicial Redress Act that gives European citizens the right to pursue legal action in U.S. courts if their personal data was mishandled by U.S. officials in criminal and terror investigations. The bill was part of a broader agreement between the European Union and the United States to provide both parties' citizens with remedies for a failure to protect personal data when investigating and prosecuting criminal activities.
