House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) hosted her annual Women’s History Month reception, which included remarks by first lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, and House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) joined her to honor women veterans. Retired Brigadier General Wilma Vaught was honored at the event, and spoke about her time in service and how she became the first woman to deploy with an Air Force bomber unit, and the rank of brigadier general from the comptroller field. General Vaught said although many barriers have been broken, many women still do not self identify as veterans once leaving the military. The first lady encouraged women veterans to speak about their service proudly and challenged the nation to do more to recognize them. close
