Mary Church Terrell and Racial Justice
Joan Quigley talked about her book Just Another Southern Town: Mary Church Terrell and the Struggle for Racial Justice in the Nation’s Capital, which focuses on Mary Church Terrell’s involvement in the Supreme Court case District of Columbia v. John R. Thomson Company, Incorporated. Ms. Quigley argues that Ms. Terrell’s involvement in this case is understated and overlooked, and that this was the catalyst to desegregate Washington, D.C., before the passing of Brown v. Board of Education. close
