The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations held a roundtable discussion on concussion research and treatment. Panelists include experts from the medical, military, athletic, and research communities. During the discussion, Jeff Miller, the National Football League’s senior vice president for Health and Safety acknowledged the link between football injuries and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), the first time an NFL official publicly acknowledged the link. The panel agreed that more research needed to be done on youth and elderly concussion patients. The experts said improved treatment was also needed along with prevention of concussions with better diagnostic tools, and outreach to raise awareness. close
