Secretary Bentsen, Mr. Panetta and Ms. Tyson spoke in a news conference on congressional progress on the administration’s economic plan, including the tax legislation considered in a House Ways and Means Committee hearing earlier in the week. The administration officials also discussed a scaled-down version of the president’s economic stimulus/jobs creation package, which suffered defeat at the hands of a Senate filibuster earlier in the year. close
