Attorney General Loretta Lynch and FBI Director James Comey announced the indictment of 7 Iranian hackers working on behalf of the Iranian government. Ms. Lynch said the seven individuals conspired together, and with others, to conduct a series of cyber attacks against civilian targets in the U.S. financial sector. The distributed denial of service, or “DDoS” attacks, impacted the servers of 46 financial institutions over the course of 176 days. Additionally, one of the individuals was charged with illegally obtaining access to the Bowman Dam in Rye, New York. Ms. Lynch and Mr. Comey said those who engage in computer hacking would be exposed and face prosecution in an American court of law. close
