U.S. Capitol Police Chief Matthew Verderosa spoke to reporters after reports that shots were fired at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. Chief Verderosa said that a man drew a gun in the security screening area and was shot and detained by police. He stressed that “there is no reason to believe that this is anything more than a criminal act.” He also said that a female bystander was being treated for minor injuries. close
