He spoke about how the commanding generals in the region, Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee, viewed the Shenandoah Valley from a strategic standpoint. Mr. Wert also discussed the personalities of the generals sent by Grant and Lee to fight in the valley, and how this affected the outcome of the campaign.
