Ian Crawford gave a tour of the Jemison-Van de Graaff Mansion and talked about the impact of the Civil War on the Jeminson family and the nearly 20 slaves who maintained the home. Built by Senator Robert Jeminson, Jr., from 1859-1862, the technologically advanced, Italianate structure was the first home in Alabama with a built-in bathtub and running water.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2016 LCV Cities Tour” in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, from March 19-24 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
