Secretary Tom Vilsack talked about Department of Agriculture efforts to combat food insecurity, including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and other nutrition assistance programs. He also discussed the economic impact of hunger, and other related topics including child nutrition, the challenges facing rural communities, and reducing the stigma associated with government assistance. Former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin made opening remarks and Ms. Schanzenbach presented a Hamilton Project report, Twelve Facts about Food Insecurity and SNAP.
